Area of natural beauty

Nature reserve Boshoverheide

The Boshoverheide is a nature reserve of over 200 hectares in size, with an extensive, reasonably preserved urn field from the late Bronze Age, which can be visited by hikers. The heathland joins the Loozerheide and the Weerter and Budelerbergen.

It was probably a small group of people who used the urn field for several centuries (1100 - 700 BC). They probably practised ladang-style agriculture. At the end of the nineteenth century, perhaps two hundred mounds were still present, but urn pickers looted many urns. After 2000, much of the urn field was archaeologically surveyed. The burial mounds were then restored.

Boshoverheide is part of the Natura 2000 area Weerter- en Budelerbergen & Ringselven.
