Walking in the Peel
There is only one way to explore National Park de Groote Peel and that is with your hiking boots on. Although the area is still very swampy here and there, thanks to the many paths, the Peel is easily accessible. De Groote Peel is the smallest National Park in the Netherlands and is best known for its many birds and for the history of peat cutters.
The Mussenbaanroute
The Mussenbaanroute takes you over old peel tracks, past a bird hide, a viewing tower and over boardwalks to the border of Brabant and Limburg. Here the Forestry Commission has purchased farmland that is now managed as meadow bird areas. Among others, the black-tailed godwit breeds here and in winter many geese can be found.
